Subaru Safety

Here at MetroWest, one of the things we love about being a Subaru dealer is the automaker's unwavering commitment to safety throughout its entire model lineup. Subaru's safety reputation is legendary and it has the accolades to prove it. For five straight years, from 2010-2015, Subaru was the only automaker to earn Top Safety Pick ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for every single one of its vehicles. Furthermore, in 2016, every single Subaru vehicle equipped with EyeSight technology earned the institute's highest safety rating: Top Safety Pick+. How does Subaru do it?

Thoughtful Design from the Ground Up

Standard Safety Features

Most Subaru models are available at the base level with safety equipment such as:

  • A Rearview Camera: Gives the driver better view behind the vehicle, aiding in obstacle avoidance.
  • Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC): A stability control system that detects when you steer and break, and keeps the vehicle on the intended path.
  • Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD): In addition to standard Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), Subaru models come with an EBD system that optimally distributes braking power depending on how the vehicle is loaded.
  • Seat Cushion Airbags: These serve to correctly position the driver in the event of a frontal collision.

Advanced Safety Features

Most Subaru models can be had with the optional Subaru Eyesight suite of safety and driver assistance features such as:

  • Blind spot detection with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning and intervention
  • Forward collision warning with Pedestrian Detection
  • Automatic Braking

Subaru's Starlink connected Services is also available and includes emergency assistance, automatic collision notification, and available remote vehicle access and location, and stolen vehicle recovery.

Thoughtful Design from the Ground Up

Subaru models boast special design cues that influence the vehicles safety. For example, reduced A-pillars, larger windows, and the aforementioned rearview camera give the driver a more complete view of the surroundings. A ring-shape reinforced frame provides extra cabin protection, and the boxer engine is strategically placed to avoid occupants by being driven under the chassis in the event of a front-end collision.

Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive

The heart-and-soul of every Subaru vehicle (except the RWD BRZ) is Subaru's legendary symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive which is included as standard equipment. Symmetrical AWD differs from traditional AWD in that it isn't adapted from 2-wheel drive, it prevents torque steer, it doesn't lose power when turning, and is always on.

If you'd like to learn more about Subaru's commitment to safety, or if you'd like to experience these vehicles for yourself, we'd like to invite you to come visit us in person to get behind the wheel for a test drive.
