Our dealership has worked very closely with our year-round charity partner, the Life is Good Kids Foundation, to become Life is Good "Playmakers." The term "Playmaker" comes from sports and refers to the professional care-providers who make positive life-changing "plays" during critical times in children's social, emotional, and cognitive development.
A Life is Good Playmaker is someone who spreads the power of optimism to children who desperately need it. The Life is Good Kids Foundation believes that every child needs a Playmaker. By partnering with organizations serving the most vulnerable children, we help childcare professionals nurture life-changing relationships that serve as the source of healing and vehicle of learning for all children. The Life is Good Kids Foundation (LIGKF) supports professional caregivers at every level (from CEOs and Executive Directors, to Classroom Assistants). They partner with childcare organizations all across the United States and Haiti through their Playmakers Program- a series of on-site and online retreats, workshops, and specialized on-going education resources.
When you purchase or lease a new vehicle during Share the Love, $250 is donated from Subaru on your behalf to our local charity partner, The Life is Good Kids Foundation. MetroWest Subaru and our many compassionate customers, raise money that has and will support the mission of The Life is Good Kids Foundation to help spread the power of optimism to help kids heal from early childhood trauma. Thank you for taking part in improving the lives of children of more than 200,000 children EVERY DAY, who are faced with growing up a midst poverty, violence, and illness.
We are honored to have been able to donate our time and over $64,000 over the past year to this local cause, helping to positively impact the quality of care delivered to the most vulnerable children. With the money raised during last year's Share the Love initiative, we were able to help the LIGKF support men & women who dedicate their careers to helping children heal from the devastating impact of early childhood trauma. To date, Life is Good has offered retreats and ongoing support to over 5,000 professionals - including teachers, social workers, counselors, child life specialists and other youth workers.
Annifreed was four years-old when her day-care provider, Erin became her Playmaker. 20 years laters, Erin remains an amazing force of positive inspiration in Annifreed's life. Here's their story.
In 2006, after Hurricane Katrina slammed the Gulf Coast, Mississippi State University received a Kellogg Foundation Grant to help rebuild the community. They decided to use that grant to invest in local childcare providers who wanted to discover a deeper understanding of how they could help the kids begin to heal. That's how Steve Gross, Chief Executive Optimist of The Life is Good Kids Foundation, came to Mississippi. Steve came to lead what he called a, "Playmaker Discovery." A retreat for professional care-providers (teachers, child-life specialists, therapists, social workers, etc) to start keying into the idea that if the goal is to help kids grow-up feeling safe, loved, and joyful - despite some of life's most unfair challenges and traumas - then, as their care-providers actually have to feel those very same things. After all, as Steve still likes to remind us: You can't share what you don't have.
The LIGKF's Playmaker Program helps those who care for our most vulnerable children find the good, and see the light in their own lives, so that they are best able to connect with kids who need a safe place to build their own optimism and confidence.
