Charging the Subaru Solterra

Some of our most frequently asked questions about life with an EV involve charging basics and options around Natick. The Subaru Solterra has fast charging capability, so even if you don't have a designated charging port at home, there are many public charging stations in our area where you can go from 10 to 80 percent charge in less than 30 minutes. You don't need any special equipment to charge your Solterra at home with Level I charging, but upgrading to a Level II port is a great option if you want to enjoy the convenience of faster charging speeds. Our team can help you schedule a professional installation to enhance your Solterra ownership experience.

Level I charging requires a regular wall outlet near where your vehicle parks. It uses standard 120-volt power and can take up to 24 hours to regain 80 percent charge from a completely depleted battery. Charging continuously above 80 percent is not recommended because frequent charging cycles can degrade the powerful batteries. The optimum charge for the Solterra is 30 to 80 percent. With a range of up to 228 miles, a single charge should last most drivers several days.

A professional Level II charger in your home can cut your charging time down to nine hours to go from 10 to 80 percent. The Level II charger provides power with a 240-volt plug – similar to an electric clothes dryer – and can come rated for indoor or outdoor use. Our team can provide a consultation to evaluate the best location for a designated charger where you park your Solterra and schedule an installation by a licensed professional.

Public charging stations around Natick can provide the fastest recharging speeds possible and offer even greater convenience for charging on the go.
